How long does the dental implants process take?

The dental implants process is dependent on each patient’s circumstances, but it typically takes about three to six l months from start to finish. The process is typically accomplished in four steps:

  1. Initial consultation with Dr. Robinette to examine your oral health
  2. Surgical placement of the implant fixture
  3. Osseointegration, when your jawbone develops an attachment to the implant fixture
  4. Placement of the restoration — the final step and then you can show off your new smile

Sometimes patients who are good candidates for dental implants require a supplemental treatment such as bone grafting surgery to prepare for the implant process.  This can extend the implant process by a few more months.

How do you take care of your dental implants after the procedure?

Following implant surgery, you’ll want to avoid smoking because it  interferes with the healing process. Dr. Robinette also recommends eating soft foods for a few weeks to avoid any damage.
